FAQ

Is your academy a non-profit organization?

Yes. Emmaus Academy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation formed in the state of Illinois and is governed by a Board of Directors.

Is your academy governed by a church?

No. Emmaus Academy is not a ministry of any particular church or denominational body, nor does it promote or endorse any particular denomination. A board of directors governs Emmaus Academy. It is our desire to maintain this position for the purpose of unity and fairness to each student, avoiding any dissension that may be caused by denominational distinctives. As a Christian organization, all board, faculty, and staff profess faith in Jesus Christ.

When do you meet?

Emmaus Academy meets two days per week on a trimester system with a 9 month academic calendar.

What is the role of parents at Emmaus?

During home days, parents will need to spend intentional time leading their child in application of concepts taught at the academy. The number of hours required will vary depending on the age of the child and their individual needs. Parents are also responsible for the subjects not covered at Emmaus. (Please visit Recommended Curriculum for suggested resources.)

Who chooses the curriculum?

The curriculum at Emmaus Academy is predominantly chosen by the Director of Curriculum & Instruction. Much research and prayer is put into each decision. Prospective curriculum must be of high quality and conducive to our high standards in classical education. Each year we will evaluate the curriculum and make changes as needed.

What are Forms?

Forms are age-specific educational groupings which allow for diversity and student leadership within the classroom. They reflect the heightened influence of Charlotte Mason methodology and a decreased influence of progressive educational philosophy.
